Dear PES members,
It is an honor and privilege to start my term as PES President. I want to thank outgoing President Mark Palmert for his wisdom, leadership, friendship, and hard work, and I am truly grateful he will be by my side as Past President. I am also excited to be working with President Elect Tandy Aye, the rest of the Board of Directors, the Degnon group, and the PES membership.
As I was traveling the walkway between the parking garage and terminal B at LaGuardia airport earlier this month, I noted the artwork by Sabine Hornig entitled La Guardia Vistas, 2000 where she included quotes by Fiorello La Guardia, the founder of the airport and New York City Mayor from 1934 to 1945. One such quote started “We have established the lesson for the entire world. We have demonstrated that it is possible for people coming from all lands and climes of the world. . . to live together as good neighbors, in peace and harmony. . .” Our society embraces that mission, and our recent extremely successful meeting highlighted the accomplishments that can be made when we work together.
In these unsettling times, it is easy to feel uncertain and uncomfortable. PES will continue to advocate for the health and welfare of children, adolescents, young adults and their families regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, or gender identity.
Sincerely,

Laurie Cohen, MD

In addition, through expert faculty conversations, high impact animations, and patient cases, this activity will provide valuable insights to pediatric endocrinologists and other clinicians that see T1D patients on identifying appropriate patients who would benefit from treatment with DMTs, as well as considerations for administration of these therapies according to guidance and patient-specific factors.

Health Systems Disparity Spotlight: The Power of Advocacy in Pediatric Endocrinology: Leading with Compassion, Evidence, and Action in a Politically Complex Time
Submitted by: Ambika Ashraf, Shana Mccormack, Ilenne Fennoy
As pediatric endocrinologists, we are uniquely positioned at the intersection of science, compassion, and advocacy. Our daily work reflects the deepest values of our profession, ensuring that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, has access to evidence-based and equitable care. It is easy to feel disillusioned about the impact we can have as pediatric endocrinologists. But our roles as clinicians, scientists, and advocates, have never been more essential.
